Received his Ph.D. in Computer Science (1990) from the Department of Computer and Information Science of the College of Engineering at the University of Florida. He obtained his B.S. in Mathematics (1977) and M.S. in Applied Mathematics (1980), both from the University of Puerto Rico at Rio Piedras. While in pursuing graduate studies he was awarded the NSF Graduate Fellowship (1978-1980) and the NASA Graduate Fellowship (1988-1889). He has been faculty at the University of Puerto Rico since 1980. In 1991, he joined the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the Rio Piedras Campus of the University of Puerto Rico, where he was mostly dedicated to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Computer Science and Computational Mathematics. In particular, he has taught courses in the areas of Analysis of Algorithms, Data Structures, Data Bases, Operating Systems, and Probability and Statistics. He has seven publications in international peer reviewed journals and conferences, and has been Co-PI in two infrastructure grants received from NSF while in Rio Piedras. Since August 2001, he has been a faculty member of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Puerto Rico in Mayaguez. His research interests are in the areas of algorithms, distributed and parallel computing, and databases. He has served as referee of research articles submitted to IEEE Transactions on Comuters, 30th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, IASTED, and Parallel Processing Letters, as well as for several local conferences in Puerto Rico.
